Wanderment Farms: A Beautiful New Experience for Family Photos and Proposals Near Santa Barbara

A family of four embraces in a sunlit vineyard at golden hour, with a mother and father holding their two young daughters.

If you’ve been around here for a while, you know the experience of your photo session matters just as much to me as the photographs themselves. Every time you look at your images, they’ll bring you back to our time together. You might remember your child reaching for your hand, everyone laughing over something silly, or the feeling of holding your family close. I want you to remember an afternoon you loved.

With that in mind, I’m so happy to introduce a new location for family, maternity, couples, and proposal photography: Wanderment Farms

Nestled in the Carpinteria foothills of Toro Canyon, this private working organic farm has colorful gardens, grapevines, olive groves, sweeping views, and charming farm animals. I recently photographed a family here, and I’m excited to share these images and a little more about what makes this place so special.

A Farm Created With Care

There is so much to appreciate about Wanderment Farms, starting with the people behind it. Margo Redfern and her husband purchased the property in 2020, when it was a commercial vineyard. Since then, they’ve been creating a diverse working farm with a deep commitment to caring for the soil, plants, and animals. Their regenerative farming practices include composting, livestock rotation, and planting for biodiversity and pollinators. The gardens, vineyards, and animals are all part of that bigger picture. Knowing how much thought and work goes into this place makes me even more grateful to photograph here.

Margo and the Wanderment Farms team have welcomed me so warmly, and I’m thankful for the opportunity to share the farm with my clients.

Family Photos That Feel Like an Afternoon Together

What I love most about a family photo session at Wanderment Farms is how much there is to enjoy. You can wander the property, take in the views, pause by the gardens, and watch your children discover something new. There’s room for curiosity, conversation, and those little moments of connection that happen when you’re enjoying yourselves.

The farm’s animals bring their own personalities to the experience, too. Miniature donkeys, cows, llamas, chickens, sheep, and dwarf goats call Wanderment home. Opportunities to meet them add something especially memorable to a visit. For children, having something interesting to explore can make a photo session feel exciting. For parents, it’s a chance to slow down and be part of the fun.

I’ll be there to notice the way your child leans into you, the laughter you share, and the small gestures of affection that are so familiar now but change as your children grow.

Less Posing, More Candid Connection

My approach at Wanderment Farms is the same one I bring to every family session: gentle guidance, beautiful light, and plenty of space for you to be yourselves. We’ll take a classic photograph with everyone looking, then make room for movement and connection. You can walk hand in hand, scoop up your little one, cuddle together, and enjoy what’s around you.

The gardens, olive groves, and grapevines give us beautiful settings for photographs, while ocean and mountain views help tell the story of where you spent this time together. Whether you live nearby or are visiting Santa Barbara, a session here can become a lovely shared memory.

And while this post features a family, Wanderment is also a beautiful setting for maternity, couples and senior photography. There are so many seasons of life worth remembering, including the quiet anticipation before a baby arrives and the simple joy of being together.

More to Discover at Wanderment Farms

The farm offers several ways to enjoy the property and get to know the work happening here. Guided walking tours introduce visitors to the animals and regenerative farming practices, with opportunities to feed animals under the team’s guidance. Wanderment also offers seasonal produce and flowers, private celebrations, and select dining experiences and weddings.

I love that you can build a relationship with this place over time. Visit with your children, bring home flowers, return for a celebration, or gather around a table to enjoy food grown on the farm.

If you’d like to incorporate a farm experience into your photo session, we can coordinate the details with Margo in advance so everything fits comfortably together.

A Special Place to Propose Near Santa Barbara

Wanderment Farms also offers a beautiful setting for a proposal. Imagine bringing your partner somewhere unexpected, surrounded by gardens and views of the coastline. A thoughtful setup is waiting, with flowers from Margo’s garden, a charcuterie board, and wine produced right on the property. There’s something wonderfully personal about celebrating with flowers and wine that have a connection to the place where you just got engaged.

Margo can help arrange those details, and I can help with the photography plan. Together, we’ll coordinate the timing, setting, and logistics so you can arrive feeling prepared and focus on your partner. I’ll photograph the proposal discreetly, then we’ll take relaxed engagement portraits while the excitement is still fresh. There will be time to hold each other, laugh, admire the ring, and let it all sink in.

For couples looking for a romantic proposal location near Santa Barbara, Wanderment Farms offers the opportunity to create an experience that feels thoughtful and personal.

Photographs That Bring You Back

Imagine spending an afternoon here with your family, exploring somewhere beautiful and enjoying the people you love most. Then imagine opening your photo album months or years later and remembering it all. The way your child fit in your arms, their excitement about the animals, the laughter, the hugs, and the feeling of being together at this particular moment in your lives.

My full family sessions include a luxury photo album that I design for you, giving those memories a place in your home and something your children can return to as they grow. That’s what makes this new offering so meaningful to me. We get to create an experience worth remembering and photographs that help you keep it.

Thank you, Margo and the Wanderment Farms team, for welcoming us into this beautiful place.
